A history of love, elegance, hospitality and family

1904 - Rosedon is built as a private home of E J Thompson and named after his son, Robert Rosedon Thompson. Construction commenced in 1904 and was completed 2 years later in 1906. The main house is a historically listed property and has been lovingly restored to highlight its authenticity. One almost expects to find Mark Twain ‘loafing’ with his Gin and Tonic on the expansive front porch of the main house.

1930s - 1955 Rosedon is sold by the Thompson family to an American named Brown who installed the magnificent private bathrooms. Each of the five double bedrooms had a private tiled bathroom with a glassed-in shower which was very unusual for its time.

1955 - 1980’s Rosedon was purchased from the Brown Estate by the Kitson family. Geoffrey Kitson & his wife Elizabeth Kitson move in with their family of three, Kirk, Richard & Susanna. While Geoffrey builds the small Insurance firm in Hamilton, Geoff & Betty open the home as a small bed and breakfast. A small pool is built in the back garden area along with fifteen rooms. The basement of the main house was converted into housekeeping while the main kitchen is used to serve breakfast and traditional English afternoon tea to the guests.

1980 - 2000 - Rosedon adds on sixteen more garden & luxury rooms, known as the 70’s and 60’s and in 1998, four more rooms are added to include a top tier level; the Royal Rooms.

2015 - 2020 The Main House is completely renovated in tandem with introducing a new restaurant, Huckleberry. Updates included; plumbing, lighting and stabilizing infrastructure. A state of the art Chef’s kitchen is installed as well as upgrades to Beau’s Bar area & front porch Verandah. Waterford Crystal Chandeliers are installed and gas fireplaces add a modern warmth. The upper floor of the main house is renovated into a large elegant event space, now named the Crystal room. The Pool area receives an upgrade with a 40’ covered pergola, and private cabana and all new pool furniture.

2018 - 2022 Our Gardens by the pool were originally designed by Betty Kitson and Walter Hess - a swiss horticulturist. The Main House Front Lawn Dais and Gardens were recently designed into several outdoor tiered living rooms by family members, Lee, Judy & Scott. Much of the inspiration was drawn from the pool area as well as a recent visit to Nevis which has a very similar climate to Bermuda. Our gardens feature Bermuda banana trees, citrus, bird of paradise, frangipani, hibiscus, heliconias and other unique gingers and palms.

A new pergola, bar and Bermuda Buttery is built on the lower western lawn area, now known as Finn’s Terrace. Finn’s Terrace and our front lawns are a dynamic setting with multiple lush outdoor living rooms spread across three terraces hidden among the trees and lush local flora. The spaces are perfect for cocktail receptions, corporate happy hours, large summer parties or small weddings. These spaces come with the option for your own private chef on the outdoor BBQ, a full private bar and built in Sonos audio system.
